KNOB - KNURLED

Although its hard to trace the history of when knurling started, we do know that early uses were in the late 1800’s for the sole purpose of increasing the level of grip on instruments. In its early days manufacturing “knurls” also known as “rope knurling” was an expensive feature not really seen in automotive design however many performances minded guys in the later years cut grooves in knobs and handles for the sole purpose of having more grip while the car rumbled across the terrain.
